For those who covet mid-century furniture, but can’t seem to afford the hefty price tag that comes with names like Herman Miller, Eames, or Knoll, White on White is their answer. Owner Karazona Cinar manufactures his own versions of classic pieces by Mies van der Rohe, Eero Saarinen, and Isamu Noguchi. The four locations, three in Manhattan and one in Brooklyn, showcase these designer knock-offs as well as a large selection of antique Danish furniture. The downside is that new pieces are not certified and there is no customer service to speak of, but buyers will still have money leftover for rent.

Plastic reigns supreme at this iconic European store, which takes traditional design and modernizes it with this extremely durable material. Virtually everything showcased is manufactured from synthetic polymer—from Philippe Starck’s famed transparent Louis XVI Ghost chairs to Ferruccio Laviani’s must have Bourgie table lamp. There is a humorous aspect to the pieces with items like Gnomes stool-table and Lovely Rita bookshelf. The hard material may not be suitable for couch potatoes, but if you are aesthetically inclined or have abundant outdoor space, the durable waterproof material is a perfect fit.
