Girls: Album

True Panther Sounds

Like an ethereal love letter to the Golden Gate city, Girls’ dreamy debut Album chronicles the life and times of San Francisco’s art and music scene dwellers in the form of droney, fuzzed-out rock that’s filled with romance and artistic angst. Composed of Christopher Owens and Chet “JR” White, Girls channel the drowsy sensuality of a late summer love affair with cryptic autobiographical lyrics and languid guitars that sound as if they are being slowly strummed underwater. The stunning opener “Lust For Life” has a bittersweet nostalgic feel that’s the musical answer to a torn and frayed high school yearbook and the moody “Morning Light” is a bombastic blast of ’90s-era indie with noisy reverb juxtaposed by evocative vocals.
